Summer Volunteers Opportunities

  • Session 1: Monday, July 27 — Monday, August 3
  • Session 2: Saturday, August 8 — Saturday, August 15

(These dates include all-staff orientation which begins at 9am on July 27th and August 8th; it is usually best for volunteers to arrive the evening before)

Every year, volunteers make Camp AmeriKids possible. Without the support of these dedicated individuals our program could not exist. We depend on a close ratio of campers to counselors and staff, and always have 24-hour medical support for all. Many campers and volunteers return year after year to reconnect with old friends and form new and lasting bonds.

We are always looking to expand our camp family with caring individuals. Below is a list of available summer positions. Please note that camp volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, and preferably a year out of high school.

All interested volunteers should fill out the latest version of the application. (New volunteers: please note that we ask for 3 recommendations to be submitted independently.) All accepted volunteers must submit a Staff Medical Form with complete immunization history and current TB test prior to their arrival at camp. If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact Erica at (203) 658-9671 or Thank you!

Cabin Counselors

A volunteer counselor team is responsible for the 24-hour supervision of a cabin and maintains a camper to counselor ratio of about 2 to 1. Counselors spend each day of the camp session with their cabin group as they rotate through a schedule of activities and participate in new and exciting workshops provided by the program staff. The cabin counselor's enthusiastic participation in all aspects of camp, from meals and activities to nightly special events and cabin chats, is crucial in creating a memorable camp experience for our campers. Counselors are expected to be role models, sources of energy and ideas, and are a key part of the Camp AmeriKids community.

Wellness Team

Camp AmeriKids is looking for experienced social workers and psychologists to join our Wellness Team. The Wellness Team exists to lessen emotional and behavioral stress for campers and counselors during the camping session. Under the guidance of our Wellness Director, the Wellness Team works to alleviate crisis situations at camp, ensuring a positive experience for all members of the community. Wellness Team members make themselves available both to campers and to counselors who would like to discuss challenging situations or who just need to vent emotions during the day.

Program Staff

We are seeking talented and enthusiastic individuals who have expertise and/or teaching experience to lead one of a variety of camp activities. Program staff run daily classes for different age groups from 8–16 year olds. The following specialist positions are available: Sports, Arts and Crafts, Drama, Dance, Spoken Word, Swimming (must be certified), Nature, Teambuilding, Video Production and Music. These positions require the volunteer to spend both sessions at camp.

Operations Assistants

If you are interested in volunteering at camp in a way which greatly impacts the experience of the children without being directly responsible for their daily care, working in operations might be the place for you! It takes a lot of work to make camp happen and we need energetic, self-motivated, easy going people with a penchant for problem solving to help. Experience with general maintenance and sound/lighting equipment a plus! To learn more about specific responsibilities, please contact us.

Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Doctors

Thanks to an ongoing partnership with Columbia University School of Nursing and New York Presbyterian Hospital, we currently have a complete Medical Staff.

If you are unable to spend an entire week at camp, or if you would like to extend your volunteering past the summer, there are plenty of ways to get involved with Camp AmeriKids year-round! If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact Erica at (203) 658-9671 or
