The mission of Camp AmeriKids is to enhance the lives of
youth in the Tri-State Area who are infected with or affected
by HIV/AIDS by providing a traditional summer camp
experience, year-round skill building and a supported transition into adulthood.

September 2009:

Camp AmeriKids was founded by AmeriCares in 1995 and since then has been delivering an exceptional camp experience to youth infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.  Earlier this year in response to the economic downturn and its impact on charitable giving, AmeriCares reluctantly made the decision that it could no longer operate the Camp AmeriKids program.  Instead, AmeriCares will focus its resources on its core missions of health care initiatives around the world and in the U.S., our medical gifts-in-kind model, and emergency response to natural and man-made disasters. 

Therefore after September 30, 2009, AmeriCares will no longer provide funding for Camp AmeriKids.  In light of this significant change, the Camp AmeriKids team is now focusing its efforts on transitioning our program into an independent, self-sustaining entity.

With the support of the AmeriCares Board of Directors, our hospital and agency partners, the families we serve, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers, the camp leadership team is optimistic, and remains committed to continuing to deliver an extraordinary camp experience for children and teens impacted by HIV/AIDS.
