New Application | Returning Application | Medical Form
The deadline for applications for all Volunteer positions is June 6, 2008.
Volunteers are the fuel that keeps Camp AmeriKids going! We depend on a close ratio of campers to counselors and staff, and always have 24-hour medical support for campers. Many campers and volunteers return year after year to reconnect with old friends and form new and lasting bonds.
We are always looking for volunteer support from caring individuals who want to join our camp family. Below is a list of our available summer positions. Please note that camp volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
Any interested volunteer should fill out the correct application linked above and send it to the address given. (New volunteers: note that we ask that 3 recommendations be submitted independently.) All accepted volunteers must submit a Staff Medical Form with complete immunization history and current TB test prior to their arrival at Camp. If you have any questions, we can be reached at camp@americares.org. Thank you!
Cabin Counselors A volunteer counselor team is responsible for the 24-hour supervision of a cabin and maintains a camper to counselor ratio of 3 to 1. Counselors spend each day of camp with their cabin group as they rotate through a schedule of activities and participate in new and exciting program areas provided by the program staff. The cabin counselor's enthusiastic participation in all aspects of camp, from meals and activities to nightly special events and cabin chats, is crucial in creating a memorable camp experience for our campers. Counselors are expected to be role models, sources of energy and ideas, and are a very key part of the Camp AmeriKids experience for our campers.
Wellness Team We are looking for experienced social workers and psychologists to participate in Camp AmeriKids as members of our Wellness team. The Wellness Team exists to lessen emotional and behavioral stress for campers and counselors during the camping session. Under the guidance of our camp Wellness Director, the Wellness Team works to alleviate crisis situations at Camp, ensuring a positive camp experience for all members of the Camp AmeriKids community. Team members participate in activity areas assessing the daily emotional climate and identifying potential crisis situations. Wellness team members make themselves available to counselors who would like to discuss challenging situations or who just need to vent emotions during the day.
Program Staff We are seeking talented and enthusiastic individuals who have expertise and or teaching experience to lead one of a variety of camp activities. The program staff consists of the following specialist positions: Sports, Arts and Crafts, Drama, Dance, Spoken Word, Lifeguard and Music. These positions require the individual to spend both sessions at Camp. Program staff receive a small stipend for their time with us.
Medical Professionals Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Doctors The Camp Medical staff provides 24 hour medical support for campers so that they can fully participate in camp activities thereby deriving maximum benefit from their camp experience. All volunteers of the medical team are responsible for around the clock care of the camp community. Medical volunteers must submit proof of professional licensing and certification as required by the New York State Department of Health. Camp AmeriKids may assist in processing these licenses. Doctors accept the responsibility to provide physician care to children and staff during their stay at Camp AmeriKids. Camp AmeriKids Nurses and Nurse Practitioners work closely with the Camp Physicians, dispensing medications, responding to emergencies and caring for patients admitted to the infirmary.
